Please join us at Art Cake on Sunday, November 10, at 2:00P for a walk-through of Suzanne Bocanegra: Wardrobe Test led by the artist and Susan L. Talbott, Executive Director at The Fabric Workshop and Museum in Philadelphia.

Suzanne Bocanegra: Wardrobe Test, the inaugural exhibition at Art Cake, features three large-scale works: Valley (2018); Lemonade, Roses, Satchel (2017); and Dialogue of the Carmelites (2018).

The works, which were developed in collaboration with The Fabric Workshop and Museum in Philadelphia and included in their 2018 solo exhibition Suzanne Bocanegra: Poorly Watched Girls, have been configured and adapted to Art Cake’s newly renovated spaces.

 

ABOUT SUZANNE BOCANEGRA

Born in Houston, Texas, Suzanne Bocanegra received her B.F.A. from University of Texas, Austin, and her M.F.A. from San Francisco Art Institute. Since the late 1980s, Bocanegra’s work has been the subject of major solo exhibitions and featured in international group exhibitions. She has been a recipient of notable awards and fellowships, including a Smithsonian Artist Research Fellowship (2013), a New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship (2005; 2001; 1993; and 1989); Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant (2003; 1990; 1988); Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Grant; Joan Mitchell Foundation Grant (both 2001); Prix de Rome (1990); among others. She is currently working on a performance commissioned by The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York and UCLA titled Honor. Bocanegra lives and works in New York.

 

ABOUT SUSAN L. TALBOTT

Susan L. Talbott became The Fabric Workshop and Museum’s second Executive Director in 2016 following her retirement as Director and CEO of the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art in Hartford, CT. Previously, Talbott was Director of Smithsonian Arts, Washington, DC, and in that capacity also served as Acting Director of the National Museum of African Art. Throughout her 40 year career, she held other museum directorial positions and curated numerous exhibitions including Suzanne Bocanegra: Poorly Watched Girls; Process and Practice: 40 Years of Experimentation; Patti Smith: Camera Solo; My Reality: Contemporary Art and the Culture of Japanese Animation; and Fred Wilson: Memory. In 2015 she was made a Chevalier in the Order of Arts and Letters.
