Radiator is an exhibition of carefully selected, thoughtful and well-crafted home goods that encompasses furniture, lighting and home objects. Exhibited are individuals that are sources of design energy which the show amplifies (or radiates)to a larger audience, so that it might expand the diversity in the market and support the new generation of designers that make it exciting. This show is highlighted as a part of NYCxDesign’s 10th Anniversary Festival, the official city-wide celebration of design.

Curated by Andrew Algier and Sara Schoenberger, the show will run from May 11, 2022 to May 17, 2022, with an opening reception Saturday, May 14, from 6-8pm at Art Cake. Located in Brooklyn’s Sunset Park, this venue is just a block south of Industry City, a hub for design and manufacture.

Eleven designers will be featured in this year’s show: Malcolm Majer, Maxwell McInnis, Rebecca Ford, Alejandro Moyano, Matthew Elias, Anna Rindos, Kate Butler, Jocelyne Cabada, Lauren Goodman, Jordan Maurice, and Hayden Richer.

The week-long show will display vignettes from each designer and include a variety of home objects, ranging from candleholders crafted from road asphalt to polished chairs made from metal, wood, and leather. Many of the pieces shown are being exhibited publicly for the first time and will debut at this exhibition.

Named for the divergence out from a central point and the ubiquitous heating element found in old homes, Radiator strives to provide a platform where underrepresented small studios can show new designs at no cost, at a time when the main avenues for exhibition present a significant financial barrier to most. This year’s show will continue to provide opportunity by partnering with a new design gallery in Manhattan, Otras Formas, for a “Best In Show” award. A panel consisting of several esteemed industry professionals (which will be announced soon) will convene to determine the winner by the close of the exhibition.
