From One to Another

  • ArtCake 214 40th Street Brooklyn, NY, 11232 United States (map)

Christina Massey is an award-winning artist recognized for her innovative use of repurposed materials—particularly aluminum cans—to create vibrant botanical abstractions. Her multidisciplinary practice spans sculpture, painting, and installation, exploring themes of environmental sustainability, consumer waste, and material transformation.

In From One to Another, Massey presents new sculptural weavings and a video of a collaborative dance created during her two-year residency at Art Cake. Each piece embodies a state of transition: between lushness and decay, stillness and motion, industrial and organic. Through shifting color palettes and dual-sided compositions, the works reflect natural cycles and the delicate balance between beauty and breakdown. The exhibition also marks a personal shift in Massey's practice, bridging one creative chapter into the next.

Massey has exhibited widely, with recent solo projects at SPRING/BREAK Art Show, UrbanGlass, and Montefiore Einstein’s Gallery for ARTFul Medicine. Her accolades include a Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant, SIP Fellowship at the EFA Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop, and multiple Brooklyn Arts Fund Grants. Her work is held in numerous public and private collections, including the Janet Turner Museum, the Art Bank Collection (Washington, D.C.), and the UBS and Bank of America Collections. She studied painting and theater set design at California State University, Chico, and is the founder of WoArt, a platform promoting contemporary female-identifying artists.
