Art Cake is pleased to present Farmhouse/Whorehouse: an Artist Lecture by Suzanne Bocanegra Starring Lili Taylor in conjunction with Art Cake’s inaugural exhibition Suzanne Bocanegra: Wardrobe Test. The three large-scale works on view: Valley (2018); Lemonade, Roses, Satchel (2017); and Dialogue of the Carmelites (2018), were developed in collaboration with The Fabric Workshop & Museum in Philadelphia.

Farmhouse/Whorehouse had it’s New York debut as part of Brooklyn Academy of Music’s 2017 Next Wave Festival, and has been performed at the Wexner Center for the Arts, Columbus, Ohio; UCLA Center for the Art of Performance, Los Angeles; Pulitzer Arts Foundation, St. Louis, Missouri; Site Santa Fe, New Mexico; The Fisher Center for the Performing Arts, Bard College, Annandale-on-Hudson, New York, and the CounterCurrent Festival in Houston, among others.

Farmhouse/Whorehouse follows Bocanegra’s acclaimed collaborations with actors Paul Lazar (When a Priest Marries a Witch: an Artist Lecture by Suzanne Bocanegra Starring Paul Lazar) and Frances McDormand (Bodycast: an Artist Lecture by Suzanne Bocanegra Starring Frances McDormand).

Farmhouse/Whorehouse enlists the talents of Brooklyn-based actress Lili Taylor, known for her work in film (Mystic Pizza, I Shot Andy Warhol, The Haunting), television (Six Feet Under, American Crime), and theater (Three Sisters, Marvin’s Room).

Located in a converted industrial building from the 1920s in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, Art Cake is a new organization dedicated to providing space for production and opportunities to explore creative practices. It opened its doors in September 2019.
